1. Creation of a library
The library in the village will be the centre point of all activity. A room in the village school will be used as a library ito avoid cost of new building.
Funds for books will be collected and handled by the villagers themselves.
a)
Newpapers: Gujarat Mitra, Gujarat Samachar, Indian Express, The Hindu.
b)
Our main challange is to teach english/maths/science to our village children.
Bimonthly childrens magazine Champak (english edition) is a good start point. It has lovely stories and pictures that children would love plus it also gives lots of information and is directed towards indian children unlike other comics.
If possible we should get books of Enid Blyton and other famous childrens authors. They are lovely but expensive.
c)
Books about careers like banking exams, railways exams, NET, GATE other exam preparatory books. This is for the young people.
d)
DVD with teaching videos Principles of Science, Mathematics, History, Geography etc. As the volunteers build up the basic library, efforts will be made to collect good teaching videos.
2. Find teachers for English/Mathematics/Science for every village schools (if villagers are willing to spend).
If the villagers can all contribute the money to pay about Rs. 5000 a month we will arrange for excellent teachers to come over and teach in our villages 4 times a month (weekends the whole day). We will publish the advertisements and select the candidates. They will be continued only if there is a consensus from the villages that they are good.
3. Organize Science/Mathematics/English Competitive Examinations
These exams will be used to identify the brightest of students from the villages who can be further trained to be given best of training to tackle entrance exams of the national cadre like JEE, Medical entrances, Engineering etc. All the material for the exams will be taught in the sessions that we have planned with DVDs etc. The students will not be asked anything outside of whatever they have been taught.
The funds for this will be raised from donors from the entire community.
4. Organize career guidance programmes/ actual training workshops
Our preliminary career guidance programmes will be done only after the children have seen different videos etc. so that they have a general feeling of what different career options are. Also our programs will be directed for students of class 5th-7th, class 8th-12th and college levels.
Once our students at college level come upto our standard of perfection, we will reach out to exceptionally trained people from the premier institutes of India and call them over to give training to to them.
6. Train our chilren for tomorrows sports
Cricket unfortunately is the only sport that people know of. Football, tennis, badminton, Volley ball etc. which are popular worldwide should also be equally appreciated.
7. Train our children for tomorrows careers
Teach computers, animations, fine arts, dance (indian classical, western), Music, Designing clothes, Jewellry, Arts, tourism etc.
8. Plan trainings for Adults.
Give information about government fundings for activities, Job informations, other practical and field traning opportunities (in agriculture, industry etc.)
