The  Dhodia  speak  in a  dialect  called  Dhodia or Dhodfi, which is a dialect which draws heavily on words  from  Gujarati, Marathi  and Konkani. This is probably as a result of their unique geographical location on  the borderline of  the two states. Most  Dhodia speak Gujarati and some speak Hindi as well.  A handful of  them who dwell in  the  cities also now speak English. As  the  need  to integrate into the society for economic and social reasons increases, the challange to maintain the  language also poses a huge struggle. As said earlier Dhodia is not a recognized language or rightly speaking  it’s a way of communicating that is in practice within Dhodia community. “Dhodia Boli”  has  remained in vocal language till  now. This language does not have  any writing script. No detailed research has been done till date regarding  its origins. However  some research made by students of literature and  their findings are worth acknowledging. Mr. Mancharam Patel rightly said : " કોઇ ભાષા-શાસ્ત્રીએ આપણી ભાષાના ભાષાકોષો, વ્યાકરણ લખી નાખવા જોઇયે નહી તો ૧૫ વર્ષ પછી આપણી ભાષા સાંભળવા પણ નહી મળે."

Translation: "If some Linguist does not write the wordlist and grammar, then these languages would not be heard after 15 years or so"

He himself has done a very good study and we have used his books contents also while preparing our data base.

We have tried to prepare this vocabulary, &  grammar to  some  extent  courtesy to all  the people  we came in contact with and who found our  work interesting. The  elders in  our  family who speak our language gave us insightful  information that what we call  something  modern days was called something else  in  their younger days. This also  has helped a lot  to get in touch with our original form of  communication (Boli - Language) that has  been very much influenced by Gujarati  in modern days. “We are getting into finding the roots of our  ancestors and  have information  from some unauthentic sources that  there are  some  evidences of similarity in rituals amoung a group of people living in mountains.”

Origin of  Dhodia  Language -  
As  per  the information  we  have  been  able to collect the origin of Dhodia language may be “Bhili”.
Bhili is the language that was existent before the Aryan era that is derived by the research made  by the  historians  and according  to them “Bhili” has contents of Dravidian or Munda. Though later Bhili was  influenced  by  Aryan  languages  it  still  has  the  original  essence  of the Dravidian or Munda languages. Now according to the study made by certain people Dhodia language has  come into existence from Indo - European and Indo - Iranian branch of the Aryan language.

We  are  not  perfect  with  our  grammar  but  have  tried  our  level  best  to explain the way dhodia communicate  and  prepared  this  vocabulary  and  sentence formation and usage of words in a non professional manner. While  keeping  up  with increasing globalization and learning new languages is mandatory, we need to  preserve our  language to  prevent  it  from extinction. This  webpage makes a serious attempt to create a  Dhodia dictionary. It is a reference for the coming generations and also a celebration of our roots and our identity as tribals.

ધોડિયાઓ ધોડિયા કે ધોડફી નામની ભાષા બોલે છે, જેમા ગુજરાતી, મરાઠી અને કોકણી ભાષાઓના શબ્દોનો ઉપયોગ થયેલો છે. તે માટેનુ સંભવિત કારણ તેમના બે રાજ્યોની સરહદ પરના ભૌગોલિક સ્થળ જ હોઇ શકે. મોટા ભાગના ધોડિયાઓ ગુજરાતી બોલે છે અને થોડા હિન્દી પણ બોલે છે. તેમનામાંથી ખોબા જેટલા લોકો, જે શહેરોમાં ઉછર્યા છે, તે લોકો અંગ્રેજી પણ બોલે છે. જેમ જેમ સામાજિક અને આર્થિક કારણસર સમાજ સાથે જોડાય જવાની જરૂર વધે છે, તેમ તેમ આપણી ભાષાને બચાવવાનો મોટો પ્રશ્ન પણ ઉભો થાય છે. જેવુ પહેલા કહેવાયુ છે કે ધોડિયા ભાષા એ જાણીતી ભાષા નથી કે સાચી રીતે બોલાતી નથી, તે એક વાર્તાલાપ કરવાની રીત છે જે આપણા ધોડિયા સમાજમા વપરાય છે. 'ધોડિયા બોલી' ઉપર કેટલાક અનુસંધાન પણ સાહિત્યના વિદ્યાર્થીઓ દ્વારા કરવામા આવ્યા છે. શ્રીમાન મન્છારામ પટેલે સાચુ જ કહ્યુ છે "કોઇ ભાષા-શાસ્ત્રીએ આપણી ભાષાના ભાષાકોષો, વ્યાકરણ લખી નાખવા જોઇયે નહી તો ૧૫ વર્ષ પછી આપણી ભાષા સાંભળવા પણ નહી મળે" 

તેમણે તેમની જાતે પણ ઘણુ અનુસંધાન કરેલુ છે અને અમે અમારો ડેટાબેઝ બનાવવા માટે તેમની પુસ્તકના અંશોનો જ ઉપયોગ કરેલો છે.

અમે શબ્દકોષ અને વ્યાકરણ લખવાનો પ્રયત્ન કરેલો છે અને તેનો યશ થોડા અંશે અમારી સાથે સંપર્ક્મા આવેલા લોકોને જાય છે જેમને અમારુ કાર્ય રસપ્રદ લાગ્યુ હતુ. આપણા કુટુંબના વડીલો, જે લોકો આપણી ભાષા બોલે છે તેમણે અમને ઘણી મહિતી આપી જેમ કે વર્તમાન સમયમા જે બોલાય રહ્યુ છે તે તેમના યુવાનીના સમયમા કંઈક અલગ જ બોલાતુ હતુ. તેનાથી પણ આપણા વાર્તાલાપની મુખ્ય રીત જે આજના દિવસોમા ગુજરાતીથી અસર પામેલી છે, તેના સંપર્કમા આવાવા માટે મદદ મળી. "અમે આપણા પૂર્વજોના મૂળ તરફ આગળ વધી રહ્યા છે અને કેટલાક અજાણ્યા સ્ત્રોતો તરફથી માહિતી પણ છે જે પહાડોની વચ્ચે રહેતા લોકોના એક સમુહના રીતિ-રિવાજોની સામ્યતાનો પુરાવો છે."

ધોડિયા ભાષાનુ મુળ -

અમને મળી શકેલી માહિતી પરથી 'ભીલી' ભાષા ધોડિયા ભાષાનુ મુળ છે. ઇતિહાસના શોધકોના અનુસંધાનો ઉપરથી જાણવા મળે છે કે ભીલી ભાષા આર્યોના સમય પહેલા હતી અને તેમના પ્રમાણે 'ભીલી'મા દ્રવિડિયન અને મુન્ડાના અંશો છે. ભલે પાછળથી 'ભીલી' પર આર્યોની ભાષાની અસર થયેલી હતી, પણ તેમ દ્રવિડિયન અને મુન્ડા ભાષાના અંશો રહેલા જ છે. કેટલાક લોકો દ્વારા કરવામા આવેલા ધોડિયા ભાષાના અભ્યાસ પરથી તેમા ઇન્ડો-યુરોપિયન અને આર્યોની ઇન્ડો-ઈરાનિયન શાખાના અંશો જણાય છે.

અમે અમારા વ્યાકરણમા નિપુણ નથી પણ અમે અમારી રીતે ધોડિયાઓ કેવી રીતે વાર્તાલાપ કરે છે તે વર્ણવવાનો પુરો પ્રયત્ન કરેલો છે. આ શબ્દકોષ અને વાક્યરચનાઓ તથા શબ્દોનો બિન-વ્યાવસાયિક રીતે ઉપયોગ કરેલો છે. જ્યારે વૈશ્વિકરણને વધારવા માટે નવી ભાષાઓ શીખવી જરૂરી છે, ત્યારે તેની સાથે સાથે આપણી ભાષાને વિલુપ્ત થતા બચાવવાની છે. આ વેબપેજ ધોડિયા ભાષાનો શબ્દ્કોષ બનાવવાનો પ્રયત્ન છે. આ આપણી આવનારી પેઢીઓ માટે સંદર્ભ છે અને આપણા મુળ તથા આપણી આદિવાસી તરીકેની ઓળખાણ માટે ઉજવણી સમાન છે.
